The City of Surrey is BC's second-largest municipality and one of the fastest growing major cities in Canada. Surrey is an ethnically diverse city with vibrant South Asian and East Asian populations, providing unique shopping and dining opportunities.

Surrey is known as the "City of Parks". It is home to roughly 2,400 hectares (6,000 acres) of parkland and designated green space that offer many beautiful trails and walkways. Visitors to Surrey can also enjoy the outdoors while discovering the forests and sandy beaches in the area or teeing off at one of its championship golf courses.

Transportation

There will be no spectator parking at any Olympic venue.

To Richmond:

Richmond is approximately 30 minutes' drive from Surrey. Public transit buses connect Surrey and Richmond.  Note that the journey may require multiple transfers.

The Richmond Olympic Oval can be accessed by the Canada Line rapid transit system and connecting public buses.

To Vancouver:
Vancouver is approximately 40 minutes drive from Surrey. The cities are linked by public transit buses and the SkyTrain rapid transit system.

During Games time it’s best to take public transit as there will be road closures and limited parking. Extended transit service hours will be in place during February, 2010.

To West Vancouver:
West Vancouver is approximately 50 minutes' drive from Surrey. Vancouver's public transit system links the two cities via bus, SkyTrain, and/or SeaBus passenger ferry.

Tickets holders can only access Olympic events on Cypress Mountain via the Olympic Bus Network.  View travel information and reserve bus tickets here.

To Whistler:
Whistler is approximately 2.5 hours drive from Surrey along the Sea-to-Sky Highway (Hwy 99). Note that there will be driving restrictions in place along the Sea-to-Sky Highway during peak Games times.

Ticket holders to Olympic events in Whistler will be transported to and from their event location via the Olympic Bus Network. This bus network has departure points in Vancouver, Burnaby and North Vancouver.

There are no direct buses to Whistler from Surrey; however, coach services to Whistler depart from Vancouver. Passengers may take public transit to one of these locations then transfer to a coach.

Accommodation

Surrey offers plentiful hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and RV parks. Many of these, as well as campgrounds, can be found along the King George Highway near the US border, and in the downtown area. The Guildford and Cloverdale areas also offer hotels and motels, while the beachside community of White Rock provides numerous bed and breakfasts.

Things To Do

Golf enthusiasts have the opportunity to play a round at one of Surrey's several all-season championship golf courses. Visitors hoping to hit the slopes or experience other snow sports can easily head out to the North Shore Mountains' three renowned ski areas (Grouse, Cypress and Mount Seymour), which are less than an hour's drive from Surrey and feature world-class amenities.

Those interested in the arts and culture of the area can explore the Surrey Museum, the Surrey Art Gallery, and the Bell Performing Arts Centre, for live theatre, dance and music performances. Historic Stewart Farm offers history buffs guided tours of a beautifully restored 1894 farmhouse, barn and blacksmith shop.
